Focused for 2019

Last year, I learned about bullet journaling and fell in love with how organized it made me feel in my professional and personal life.  I spent a lot of time on Pinterest finding ideas for pages, how to organize, what to track, etc. in the blank page journal I purchased.  You can visit my Pinterest journaling board.  I changed the layout a few times to try to get the most impact from my time journaling.  I have to say that I started strong, but towards the middle of the year I would start to miss a day here and there.  One of my commitments this new year is to be focused so I can accomplish great things.  It is easy to start something, but hard to finish.  With this in mind, I went looking for a journal this year that was more than blank pages.  I found it in Create 365's Plan a Happy Life planner.

Create 365's Plan a Happy Life planner
There are many different themes of planners.  You can see the collection of planners, pages, stickers, etc.  I also have a planner for my personal life.  I chose the Live Well as my personal focus for this year is to stay focused to improve my health.  I searched for a link to show you this planner, but cannot find one.  However, here are the pages that came with the planner.  There are so many ways to customize the planner with add on pages to make it just what you need it to be.  My favorite right now are project/goal pages.

I keep my work journal with me throughout the day as I move from one place to another.  I am able to quickly add notes, dates, see inspirational reminders, plan projects, review goals for each month/week, and more.  I do have all my calendar appointments both in print in my journal and digitally in Outlook.

I have learned that by writing down my goals for the month and week, I am much more focused and can achieve more.  I love being able to check out when I complete a task!  It also helps that several co-workers also have planners or journals and we share them with each other so a little accountability is there.

Today, I was asked to think about and choose a work for next year that will keep me focused, be transformative, and act as a compass throughout 2019.  I chose #dreambig.  I know, it is two words.  However, I want to spend this year focusing on how I can dream big to provide optimal learning environments for students, educators, staff, parents, and the community.  I have so much I want to learn to grow myself and others.  I am excited for this year to begin!

Working to Develop as a Leader

As a part of my professional learning plan, I chose to spend time learning about strategies for becoming a better leader.  I have been in my current position for a few years, but feel that I can always grow as a leader.  It was a harder transition than I thought it would be moving from a support role of District Integration Specialist to a manager roles as the Technology Coordinator.  Early this month, I began reading the book Creating Magic, 10 Common Sense Leadership Strategies from a Life at Disney by Lee Cockerell .  I have to admit that I first picked up this book last year, but was not focused enough to complete it.  So, I got out my planner and mapped out a reading plan to read one chapter a night and take notes.  I now wish I had scheduled to read a chapter every other night in order to take more time to reflect on the information.  I may have missed a day or two, but am now back on track with the reading.  I have been amazed at the simplicity of the strategies that Lee has out

Skype Connection

We have begun to think how Skype could be used in our classrooms. A middle school teachers asked for help in finding a classroom in France that they could Skype. I quickly realized that there was not a good way to find interested classrooms. However, while researching resources for Eduwikipedia , I came across a Skype directory. When I selected the Education category there was only one person who seemed to be truly involved in education. I requested his information because he said he was interested in locating other educators in technology to collaborate with. Last Friday night my Skype phone began to ring. Bill Brennan from New York was on the other line. We began to share how technology is being used in both New York and Alabama. I cannot wait to see where this conversation and collaboration will take us.
